Since I was little I saw my mom and grandma cooking a kind of veggie soup and saying it was not for kids, because it makes you lose weight and I was too skinny growing up.
Well, once I grew-up I was interested to find out the science behind that soup. Surprisedly I saw that veggie soup was not just popular in Brazil but in many countries. They say it and as many weight loss formulas that I don’t believe but I tried to understand why they said it makes you lose weight.
The Peel-a-Pound Soup burns more calories digesting it than your body intakes, so you lose weight quickly. I ate it for breakfast and I was not hungry until dinner time. This recipe has a lot of versatility – you can add beans, different broths for flavour or ingredients – but above all else – the cabbage is essential.
I also recommend to drink lots of water as it is high in fibre and water is needed so you don’t get constipated.
What you need
1 small head of cabbage
4 large onions
2 cloves of garlic diced
1 bunch of celery
1 large can of diced tomatoes
2 cube of chicken stock
- Wash and chop/slice up all the vegetables.
- Dissolve bouillon cubes in 4 cups of boiling water.
- Add all the vegetables.
- Add canned tomatoes, juice and all.
- Add vegetable juice.
- Add more water as needed to just cover the vegetables.
I like to make a big batch of soup and freeze it – so i under cook a bit the soup. When I want to eat I serve my portion and heat it in the microwave.
